Haïti: Gold Cup 2009 : Haïti pour une quatrième fois

Après avoir disputé en 2000, 2002 et 2007 la plus prestigieuse compétition au niveau de sélection nationale dans la zone CONCACAF, la sélection haïtienne de football disputera pour une quatrième fois la Gold Cup. En prévision à cet évènement, Jairo Rios Rindon a laissé le pays avec liste comprenant vingt deux joueurs. Si James Marcelin et Fabrice Noël sont finalement retenus, en revanche, Meshack Jérôme, Eliphène Cadet et Angelot Dieujuste n'ont pas été retenus pour cette compétition.
  
Très contesté à la tête de la sélection nationale de football, Jairo Rios Rindon a surpris tout le monde pour n'avoir pas fait appel à Angelot Dieujuste et Eliphène Cadet qui sont pourtant respectivement meilleurs buteurs du championnat national Digicel avec (8) et (6) buts dans le groupe de vingt-deux joueurs retenus pour participer à la Gold Cup 2009. Ednerson Raymond, Evens Prophète ont été écartés ainsi que Meshack Jérôme qui se trouve actuellement au Portugal en vue d'effectuer un essai au sein d'une équipe de la D2. 

En revanche, le technicien colombien a décidé de faire confiance à Jean Robens Jérôme qui n'a absolument rien apporté pour le 11 national pendant les deux derniers matches disputés contre successivement le Panama au stade Sylvio Cator et la Martinique au parc Levelt. 

Auteur de l'unique but de l'équipe nationale (1-1) contre le Panama, Philbert Mercéus a eu la bénédiction du coach colombien. De son côté, Sympson Exumé va faire ses premières armes au sein du 11 national. 

A la tête des Grenadiers depuis novembre 2008, le très contesté Jairo Rios Rindon ne fait que collecter des défaites et des matches nuls. Son bilan : 10 matches, 5 nuls, 4 défaites et une victoire laborieuse obtenue contre une équipe cubaine déjà qualifiée pour les ½ finales de la Coupe Digicel qualificative à la Gold Cup. 

C'est avec le statut de remplaçant de l'équipe nationale de Cuba qu'Haïti disputera pour la quatrième fois la phase finale de la Gold Cup 2009 dans le groupe B accompagné du Honduras, de la Grenade et les USA. 

Avant son premier match le 4 juillet à Seattle contre le Honduras, le 8 juillet, face à la Grenade à Washington et le 11 juillet à Boston contre les USA, l'équipe haïtienne disputera un tournoi triangulaire à Montréal. Elle jouera le 27 juin face à la Syrie et le 1e juillet contre l'Impact de Montréal. 

Rappelons que la meilleure prestation de la sélection haïtienne de football dans la Gold cup remonte à 2002, les Grenadiers avaient pu atteindre les ¼ de finales, éliminés par le Costa-Rica au terme d'un but en or marqué par Ronald Gomes pendant les prolongations.

SYRIE 2 HAÏTI 1

MONTRÉAL – L’équipe nationale de Syrie (104e rang du classement mondial de la FIFA) a défait la sélection nationale d’Haïti (124e FIFA) 2-1 (mi-temps 2-1), samedi, dans le cadre du premier match d’une série de cinq matchs internationaux présentés cet été au Stade Saputo.

L’équipe nationale de Syrie a ouvert le pointage dès la 8e minute de jeu. L’attaquant Mohamad Alzino a accepté la passe venant du côté gauche du milieu de terrain Wael Ayan, puis a décoché un tir au poteau rapproché, battant le gardien haïtien Occenat Peterson à sa gauche.

La Syrie a doublé son avance à la 26e minute. Suite à un jeu amorcé par le milieu Feras Ismail, l’attaquant Firas Al Khatib a dribblé sur quelques mètres, puis de la ligne de la surface de réparation, a décoché un tir haut qui a frappé l’intérieur de la barre transversale avant de pénétrer le filet.

L’attaquant haïtien Léonel St Preux (29e) a réduit l’écart à un seul but moins de trois minutes plus tard. St Preux a dévié de la tête le centre du milieu Sirin Vaniel, battant le gardien Mosab Balhous au poteau éloigné.

Malgré la pluie, un total de 4649 spectateurs enthousiastes ont assisté à cette rencontre internationale, présentée en collaboration avec Emirates Canadian Sports Development et Gameday Leadership Management Consultants.

« Malgré la faible assistance en raison des conditions climatiques, il y avait une ambiance extraordinaire aujourd’hui au Stade Saputo, a déclaré le président de l’Impact de Montréal Joey Saputo. Les amateurs de soccer ont eu droit à un très bon spectacle et ont eu la chance d'encourager leur équipe à plusieurs reprises. Cela augure très bien pour les autres matchs internationaux prévus cet été. »

Rappelons que l’équipe nationale d’Haïti termine sa préparation en vue de la prochaine Gold Cup de la CONCACAF, qui s’amorcera le 3 juillet prochain.

Dans le cadre de cette série de matchs, l’Impact de Montréal affrontera la sélection haïtienne le mercredi 1er juillet à 19h30, avant de faire face à la formation syrienne le mercredi 8 juillet à 19h30. Robert Duval is the founder and director of l'Athletique d'Haiti. Always an athlete, in high school and college he participated on a semi-professional level. After college, he joined the Haitian Olympic Swimming Committee and Haitian Olympic Track Committee. He then became the Secretary General and President of the first division of soccer in Haiti and went on to win the international games entitled Concacaf, which is a competition amongst Caribbean and Central American countries. Haiti has won Concacaf twice. Boby is also a former political prisoner, who was freed by Jimmy Carter's international human rights efforts in Haiti.

Lesly Fellinga - SC Heerenveen - Dutch Division I(Eredivisie)

Lesly Fellinga (born September 29, 1985 Port-au-Prince, Haiti) is a Dutch footballer of Haitian descent who plays for Eredivisie club SC Heerenveen and the Haiti national team.

Fellinga played for the youth teams of ZFC Zuidlaren and FC Groningen before joining Eerste Divisie club BV Veendam in 2006. He was a regular feature for the club in the 2007-08 season. SC Heerenveen picked him up in a summer 2008 transfer. He made his first team debut for Heerenveen in a European match against Vitória FC.

Fellinga was first called up for the national team of Haiti for a friendly against Panama in March 2007. He made his debut for the Haiti U21 selection in a game against the United States in Dallas, Texas, a few days later. He senior team debut came in a World Cup qualifier against the Netherlands Antilles in June 2008.

Altidore's goal leads U.S. to stunning upset

BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa (AP) -- The United States stunned top-ranked Spain 2-0 Thursday night on goals by Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey, advancing to the Confederations Cup final with one of the Americans' biggest soccer victories.

Altidore scored in the 27th minute and Dempsey added a goal in the 74th as the Americans became the first team to defeat Spain since Romania in November 2006.

The chances of such a U.S. victory seemed slim just a few days ago. The 14th-ranked Americans lost their first two games in the Confederations Cup, an eight-nation World Cup warmup, and were on the verge of elimination.

Now they will play defending champion Brazil or host South Africa on Sunday in its first-ever men's final at a FIFA competition.

Spain, the European champion, had set an international record with 15 straight victories and was trying to stretch its unbeaten streak to 36, breaking the mark set by Brazil from December 1993 to January 1996.

But American goalkeeper Tim Howard came up with several big saves and Altidore got the first goal when he outmuscled Joan Capdevila, his teammate on Spain's Villarreal to beat goalkeeper Iker Casillas. Dempsey scored when he pounced on Landon Donovan's cross, which bounced off the foot of Sergio Ramos.

Midfielder Michael Bradley, the son of U.S. coach Bob Bradley, will miss the final. He received the Americans' third red card of the tournament for a late sliding tackle in the 87th minute.

The U.S. had been 1-7-1 against top-ranked teams, beating Brazil in the 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cup and tying Argentina last summer in an exhibition at Giants Stadium. When the United States upset Brazil, goalkeeper Kasey Keller had an outstanding game, just as Howard did.

The Americans were boosted by the return of captain Carlos Bocanegra, who had been sidelined since injuring a hamstring during a World Cup qualifier on June 6. He played left back instead of central defense.

The United States had lost its three previous matches against Spain, 3-1 in the first round of the 1950 World Cup, 2-0 in a 1992 exhibition at Valladolid and 1-0 in an exhibition on June 4 last year at Santander.

Frantz Bertin - OFI Crete - Greek Super League

Frantz Bertin aka Bertin (born 30 May 1983 in Paris, France) is a Haitian football player who currently plays for OFI Crete of the Greek Super League. His usual demarcation is midfielder.

Bertin was born in France but joined Italy's Juventus youth team in 2002 before moving on to Spain in 2004 to play for Santander, CD Tenerife, Atlético Madrid B, Benidorm CD and FC Luzern.

He was a Haiti squad member at the 2007 Gold Cup Finals and made his national team debut in their final game against Canada. In February 2008, he played in the friendly series against Venezuela, which served as a warm-up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Nicaragua or the Netherlands Antilles.

Leonel Saint-Preux - Minnesota Thunder - USL Division I

Leonel Saint-Preux (born March 12, 1985 in Cap-Haïtien) is a Haitian soccer player who currently plays for Minnesota Thunder in the USL First Division.

Saint-Preux began his career with Haitian club Zénith, where he was generally regarded as one of the most promising footballing talents in the Ligue Haïtienne.

Saint-Preux signed with Minnesota Thunder of the USL First Division on April 15, 2009. Scored on his debut on April 18, 2009, in a game against the Austin Aztex.

Saint-Preux has represented Haiti at various youth levels. He was a member of Haiti's qualifying squad for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, scoring a memorable 40 yard goal in his nation's 2-1 victory over Canada. He debuted for the full Haitian national team in 2007, and has since participated in several World Cup qualifying matches. He scored his first international goal on November 19, 2008, in a 1-1 tie against Suriname.

Jean-Marc Alexandre - Real Salt Lake - USA USL Division I

Jean-Marc Alexandre (born 24 August 1986 in Verrettes - Saint-Marc Arrondissement, in the Artibonite Department of Haiti) is a Haitian soccer player who currently plays for Austin Aztex in the USL First Division, on loan from Real Salt Lake.

Alexandre grew up Delray Beach, Florida, attended Atlantic High School, and played college soccer at Lynn University. During his collegiate years he also played in the USL Premier Development League with Palm Beach Pumas and Ventura County Fusion.

Alexandre was drafted in the first round (12th overall) in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake. He made his professional debut on 28 March 2009, coming on as a substitute in RSL's game against Seattle Sounders FC.

He was loaned out to USL-1 side Austin Aztex in May 2009.

Alexandre is a full international for Haiti, having played in three friendlies in 2008, starting against Honduras, and coming off the bench against Trinidad & Tobago twice.

Jean-Jacques Pierre - FC Nantes - French Division I

Jean-Jacques Pierre (born January 23, 1981) is a Haitian football player, who currently plays defender for FC Nantes of France.

Before joining Nantes in August 2005, Pierre played for Peñarol Montevideo of Uruguay and Cavaly AS of Haiti.

Pierre was the captain of the U-23 Haiti national football team, and is an emerging player for the full national squad. He made his full national team debut in a December 2001 friendly match against El Salvador and was a Haiti squad member at the 2002[1] and 2007 Gold Cup Finals. Also, he played in 2 World Cup qualifying matches in 2004. According to the Haitian press, on March 25th 2009, Jean-Jacques Pierre announced his retirement from the national side citing false accusations against him. Also, Pierre explained he was not as much valued in the national team as he is in Nantes F.C.

Alexandre Boucicaut - Violette Athletic Club - Haitian League Division I

Alexandre Boucicaut (born November 18, 1981 in Port-au-Prince) is a Haitian football (soccer) player.

Boucicaut played 47 games from 2000-2004 for Violette Athletic Club for the Haitian First Division, scoring 22 goals during his four years with the popular Haitian side. Played with Racing Club Haitien of the Haitian First Division during the 1999 and 2000 seasons.

Boucicaut is one of a growing number of Caribbean players to join the ranks of Major League Soccer. He has become only the fourth player from the island country to play in the USA's top flight soccer league, following on the heels of retired Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Sebastien Vorbe, Patrick Tardieu, and Jean Philippe Peguero.

The young Boucicaut possesses plenty of experience representing Haiti, having played 15 games for the Haiti Under-23 National Team and eight games with the Senior National Team. He has scored 12 international goals in his 23 combined appearances with the Haitian U-23 and Senior National Teams.

Boucicaut scored Haiti's lone goal in the 67th minute of the team's surprising 1-1 draw with the United States in an international friendly in 2004 at the Orange Bowl in Miami. Boucicaut was named to Haiti's 2002 CONCACAF Gold Cup squad at the age of 20. Made his debut for the Haitian Senior Team in 2002 in a match against Honduras. Played 15 games for the Haitian U-23 National Team, including three games during CONCACAF qualifying for the 2004 Olympics. He also was a Haiti squad member at the 2002 and 2007 Gold Cup Finals.

Stéphane Guillaume - Cleveland City Stars - USA USL Division I

Stéphane Guillaume (born February 9, 1984 in Saint-Marc) is a Haitian soccer player who currently plays for Cleveland City Stars in the USL First Division.

Guillaume began his professional career with Aigle Noir AC in Ligue Haïtienne, before moving to MLS team Colorado Rapids in 2005. However, Guillaime was unable to play due to regulatory matters, and moved to Miami FC in February 2006. He played in Miami for two years before being released at the end of 2008.

He signed with Cleveland City Stars on May 16, 2009, and made his debut for the team the same day, against Minnesota Thunder.

Guillaume played for the Haitian U-17, U-20 and U-23 teams before making his debut for the full Haitian national team in a February 2003 friendly match against Peru. Guillaume was part of the Haiti team which won the 2007 Caribbean Nations Cup, and was in the Haiti squad at the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Ricardo Pierre-Louis - Cleveland City Stars - USA USL Division I

Ricardo Pierre-Louis (born November 2, 1984 in Léogane) is a Haitian soccer player who currently plays for Cleveland City Stars in the USL First Division.

Pierre-Louis played college soccer at Lee University, where he was a a three-time all-Southern States Athletic Conference selection in 2005, 2006 and 2007, the SSAC Newcomer of the Year in 2005, a two-time NAIA Region XIII Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007, a two-time NAIA first team all-American in 2006 and 2007, a NAIA Player of the Year in 2007, and Lee University's Athlete of the Year in 2005, 2006 and 2007 .

In 2007, he also played for the Cape Cod Crusaders in the USL Premier Development League.

Pierre-Louis was drafted in the second round (22nd overall) in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer, but did not appear in any games, and was waived at the end of the season.

He signed with the Cleveland City Stars of the USL First Division on March 17, 2009.

Pierre-Louis made his debut for the Haitian national team in 2001, at the age of 17, before he had even begun his college career at Lee, and continued to play international soccer throughout his college and PDL careers.

He won Caribbean championships with the Haitian national U-17 and U-20 teams, was captain of the Haitian national U-20 team, and was a member of the senior Haiti squad which took part in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

James Marcelin - Puerto Rico Islanders - USA USL Division I

James Marcelin (born June 13, 1986 in Saint-Marc, Haiti) is a Haitian football (soccer) midfielder for Puerto Rico Islanders of United Soccer Leagues First Division.

Marcelin began his career with Roulado when he was sixteen. He then moved to Racing Club Haïtien. In 2008, he moved to the Puerto Rico Islanders of the USL First Division, where he is used mostly in a squad rotation system.

In 2006, Marcelin appeared for the Haitian U-21 national team. In 2007, Marcelin played for the Haiti national football team at the 2007 Gold Cup.He was recalled by Jairo Rios for a friendly match against Jamaica national football team on May 22.

Fabrice Noël - Puerto Rico Islanders - USA USL Division I

Fabrice Noël (born July 21, 1985 in Gressier, Haiti) is a Haitian soccer forward, who plays for the Puerto Rico Islanders of the USL Division One.

Fabrice grew up in the village of Gressier, 12 miles west of Port-au-Prince. He began playing soccer at a very young age, taught by his mother and brothers. By the time he was 12 years old he was playing for the national team for 15 year olds, and at the age of 16 he was one of the star players of Racing Club Haitien, one of the country's most successful club teams.

However, his skills and success ultimately brought tragedy. In November 2002, while Noël was in South Carolina taking part in an international tournament he received a phone call from his mother, telling him that his two older brothers Luckner and Kenson had been shot to death. Their murderers are thought to have been supporters of a rival club that Fabrice had refused to join. Fabrice was granted political asylum in the United States but his parents and youngest brother were forced to go into hiding.

After the ordeal in late 2002, he went to live with a former coach in Palm Beach, Florida and enrolled in Palm Beach Lakes High School. He joined the soccer team and quickly became the star, scoring 58 goals his senior season.

He received many offers from colleges but wanted to earn a pro contract in order to raise the money to bring his family to the United States. While playing in a local tournament in February 2005, he caught the eye of Colorado Rapids head coach Fernando Clavijo, who offered him a contract after he graduated high school. On June 24, 2005 it was made official and Fabrice signed with the Rapids. He made his debut less than a month later on July 20 against the San Jose Earthquakes, and scored his first goal in the season finale against Real Salt Lake.

With the help of the Colorado Rapids organization, Fabrice has set up a fund, known as the Fabrice Noël Fund in order to raise money for his parents and brother's transport to the United States.

During the 2007 MLS pre-season, the Rapids waived Fabrice and Noel signed on with the Puerto Rico Islanders. Fabrice scored the only goal in the two-legged 3rd place match in the CFU Club Championship 2007 - this victory enabled the Islanders to advance to the CONCACAF Champions League 2008–09.

Noël made his debut for Haiti in August 2006 friendly match against Guatemala. He was a Haiti squad member at the 2007 Gold Cup Finals.

Romain Genevois - FC Gueugnon - French Division II

Romain Genevois (born 28 October 1987) is a Haitian football (soccer) player, who currently plays as a defender for FC Gueugnon in the French Second Division.

Genevois came up through Gueugnon's youth ranks to make his first team debut in the 2006/2007 season.

He made his debut for Haiti in the February 2008 friendly series against Venezuela, which served as a warm-up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Nicaragua or the Netherlands Antilles.

A exactement quatorze jours de son premier match contre le Honduras, fixé pour le 4 juillet prochain à Seattle dans le cadre de la dixième édition de la Gold Cup 2009, la sélection haïtienne de football affronte son homologue du Panama ce 19 juin au stade Sylvio Cator.

C'est avec le titre de champion Digicel de l'Amérique centrale que l'équipe nationale du Panama foule le sol haïtien mardi 16 juin dernier en vue de jouer en amical contre l'équipe nationale d'Haïti. Engagées dans la Gold Cup, les deux équipes vont évaluer leurs forces avant de disputer la plus prestigieuse compétition au niveau de sélections nationales de la CONCACAF. 

Pour cette rencontre, le technicien colombien Jairo Rios Rindon aura l'occasion d'aligner plusieurs expatriés présents en Haïti pour préparer la phase finale de la Coupe d'or dont Yves Adley Desmarets, Kénold Versailles, Jean Dominique Zéphirin et autres. 

En face, le sélectionneur Gary Stempel pourra compter sur ses meilleurs éléments comme Luis Tejada, Jaime Penedo et Felipe Baloy pour défier une équipe qu'il a déjà humiliée (4-0) le 31 mars dernier à La Chorrera. L'équipe du Panama après avoir été battue (1-3) le 20 mai dernier par l'Argentine en amical se prépare donc à fournir une très belle opposition à l'équipe haïtienne privée de victoires depuis le 8 décembre 2008 contre Cuba (1-0). 

Ce sera pour la huitième fois que ces deux équipes vont s'affronter. Selon le site officiel de la FIFA, la première rencontre entre ces deux pays remonte au 22 août 1957 à Curaçao, victoire (3-1) pour Haïti. En revanche, l'équipe panaméenne a battu pour la première fois celle d'Haïti le 24 avril 2001 à Panama City (2-0). Bilan : trois victoires, deux nuls, deux défaites, neufs buts pour et huit buts contre. 

La meilleure prestation des Grenadiers dans la Gold Cup n'est autre que son quart de finale perdue (1-2) en 2002 devant le Costa- Rica suite à un but en or marqué par Ronald Gomes après prolongation. Pour sa part, l'équipe du Panama a pu disputer la finale de l'édition 2005. 

Dans le dernier classement mondial de la FIFA, Haïti perd deux places et se pointe à la 124e position avec 264 points et reste 17ème de la CONCACAF. De son côté, le Panama perd une place et est désormais 61e mondial avec 536 points et reste 5e de la zone. 

Signalons que ces deux pays ne se sont jamais affrontés dans une compétition officielle. Avant de jouer les 4, 8 et 11 juillet prochains contre respectivement le Honduras, la Grenade et les USA dans la Gold Cup, l'équipe haïtienne devrait laisser Port-au-Prince ce samedi 20 juin à destination de Montréal pour y disputer un tournoi triangulaire avec la Syrie 27 juin et Impact de Montréal 30 juin ou 1e juillet. L'équipe panaméenne disputera la Gold Cup dans le groupe C et affrontera successivement la Guadeloupe, le Mexique et le Nicaragua les 5, 9 et 12 juillet.

En battant Homestead par 2 buts a 1 devant un public surchauffe de plus de 4,000 personnes, Port de Paix est le nouveau champion de Haiti Cup Mme Gougousse 2009. Ce Championnat, qui est a sa neuvieme edition, est devenue rapidement le numero un des championnats amateurs aux Etats Unis, en surpassant en interest et en participation du public le Gold Coast League, le Broward Latin Soccer League dirrigee par Jose Fuentes, la Caribbean American Soccer Association (CASA) Championship dirrigee par Richard Campbell a Lauderhill Sports Complex, et surtout la Copa Latina de Tommy Mulroy, vieille de 18 ans, et qui a vu la vicrtoire de Seleccion Haiti de Nono Jean Baptiste cinq fois durant ses six premieres editions.  
  
Port de Paix avait marque le premier but des la 8eme minute de jeu par Hudson Joseph. Homestead avait egalise en seconde mi temps, et Port de Paix avait repris le dessus avec un but magnifique de Fritson Jean Baptiste a la 82 eme minute. Bruny Pierre Richard, le vieux briscard de 37 ans, a ete choisi par la presse comme le meilleur joueur du match. Hudson Joseph est le meilleur buteur de la competition avec huit buts, suivi de Jacques Marie St Fleur ou Ti Nock de OKAP avec cinq buts. 
  
Les supporters de OKAP de Pompano Beach, de Gonaives, de St Marc, du Violette, du Victory, des Rebels de Fort Lauderdale, de Miami Soccer, de Fadjkid de Little Haiti, de Port de Paix et de Homestead, qui ont paye $20 a la porte, ont fete ensemble la victoire meritee de Port de Paix pendant plus d'une heure apres le match, dans une ambiance surchauffee animee par les orchestres Gabel et Djakout Mizik. Durant son parcours vers le titre, Port de Paix a recolte cinq victoires, et une defaite devant les Rebels par 2 buts a 1 lors du premier tour. Le nouveau champion avait battu CD Cortez par 6 buts a 1, Honduras par 5 buts a 1, Gonaives par 4 buts a 1 en quart de finale, Rebels par 3 buts a 2 en demi finale, et finalement Homestead bar 2 buts a 1. Soit un total de 22 buts pour et 8 buts contre. Un palmares vraiment impressionant.  
  
Un autre fait a signaler, c'est que la ville de North Miami et le School Board de la ville, ou se joue ce championnat, en prenant compte du succes de Haiti Cup Mme Gougousse durant ces huit premieres annees, qui attire des equipes et le public de Homestead a Orlando en passant par Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Lauderhill et Palm Beach, et de l'attraction saine et educative offerte par ce Championnat pendant 13 weekends durant la saison touristique, aux citoyens et familles de la Floride du Sud, a investi plus de $2 millions a la fin de la derniere saison pour ameliorer l'infrastructure du Stadium FIU North, en installant cette annee un magnifique gazon artificiel et un track olympique autour du terrain de football, que le public et surtout les joueurs apprecient enormement. Durant les huit premieres annees, les joueurs se plaignaient continuellement de la boue tout le long du milieu du terrain naturel et devant les buts, qui parfois faussait les resultats des matches et meme endommageait les chevilles et genoux des joueurs. C'est la Democratie en Action. 
  
Par comparaison, la ville de Port de Paix, Haiti, d'ou ces joueurs sont originaires, n'a meme plus un parc, ni un terrain de football depuis plus de 12 ans, ni meme une equipe dans le Championnat National Digicel en Haiti.  
  
Le Parc Capois la Mort, qui a ete donne a la Ligue de Port de Paix, ou j'ai joue plusieurs matches avec le Victory contre le Victoria de Port de Paix durant les annees 50, et ou se jouaient les matches du Championnat Interregional - Coupe du 3 Juillet, ou la Ligue de Port de Paix avait brille durant les annees 70, est transforme aujoud'hui en un depotoir de carcasses de vehicules et de detritus qui entourent un lagon malsain de quatre pieds d'eau puante ou se reproduisent les moustiques de toutes sortes infectant la population des bidonvilles avoisinants de malaria et de fievre dingue. 
  
Nous envoyons un gros coup de chapeau d'abord au Createur et Promoteur de Haiti Cup Mme Gougousse, Patrick Fabre, et ensuite au Maire de North Miami, Monsieur Kevin Burns, aux Commissaires Jacques Despinosse, Marie Erlande Steril, Michael Blynn, et Scott Galvin, et a Monsieur Bobby Watson, du Departement des Parcs et Recreation de la ville de North Miami, qui ont beaucoup travaille pendant plusieurs annees pour obtenir les fonds necessaires du budget de la Municipalite de North Miami pour la realisation de ce projet.

Antoine Tassy (born 26 March 1924) is a former Haitian football (soccer) manager. He was the manager of the Haiti national football team in the 1974 FIFA World Cup, their only World Cup appearance to date.

Emmanuel "Manno" Sanón was one of Haïti's most celebrated footballers. He starred in the Haïti national team during its venture into the 1974 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

Having qualified by first knocking out Puerto Rico in a play-off, then topping the final group in the capital Port-au-Prince, Haïti was drawn into a very difficult group featuring two-time champions Italy, future champions Argentina, and Poland, who managed third place in the tournament. While they predictably finished last in the group with three losses and a -12 goal difference, Emmanuel Sanon scored both goals for the country in the tournament.

He scored against Argentina in the last game of the group, but by far the most famous goal occurred against Italy. The Azzurri had not let in a goal in 19 games prior to the World Cup, thanks to goalkeeper Dino Zoff (who, incidentally, stayed along to guide Italy to the their 1982 world championship).

However, in the opening of the second half, Sanon shocked the Italians with the opening goal. However this lead didn't hold and Italy went on to win 3-1. By the time Haiti was tossed from the tournament after losing 0-7 to Poland and 1-4 to Argentina, Sanon had cemented his place in history. With 13 goals scored in international games, he was the best scorer in the Haiti national team history before being overtaken by Golman Pierre.
